Shah chairs review meeting on implementation of new criminal laws in J&K

New Delhi, Feb 18 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a review meeting on the implementation of three new Criminal Laws in Jammu and Kashmir here on Tuesday.

The meeting was attended by J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and other senior officials.

Talking to the media after the meeting, Abdullah said, “The Home Minister has been continuously reviewing the implementation of the new criminal laws in the country as to how they have been used and to what extent. In this regards, it was the turn of Jammu and Kashmir”.

He said the Home Minister informed that review meetings were held in 11 states and Union Territories.

He added that so far the role of “implementation of these laws in J&K has been good” adding that there have been some issues in some places and they too were discussed and will also be rectified.

“As far as the elected government is concerned, although it is not our responsibility to implement the law in a Union Territory, since these are new laws it is necessary that people should be made aware of the laws. For this, the elected government will have to make some progress, whether at the university level, college level, social or political and assembly and these were also discussed. We will do whatever is needed to be done," he said.

It may be mentioned that earlier this month, the Home Minister chaired a couple of high-level meetings on the security scenario in the Union Territory. UNI RBE SSP
